Back to School: Getting involved with your child’s education
When: Saturday, October 2 at 2:00pm
Where: Mayfair Public Library (602 – 33rd Street West)
For this month’s Meetup, we’ll hear from fellow Secular Family Network member Carl von Baeyer and his involvement in helping end the recital of the Lord’s Prayer in Saskatoon’s public schools. Carl was one in a group of parents who took this issue to the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission in the 1990s and eventually won their case. Before that, he had led unsuccessful attempts on behalf of the Unitarian Congregation of Saskatoon.
The title of his talk is: Getting recital of the Lord’s Prayer and Bible readings banned in Saskatoon public schools: A four-decade saga.
For additional background on Carl’s story, check out this article: The Awkward Silence.

An afternoon with the Dinos
Saturday, June 5th
University of Saskatchewan Geology Building, 112 – 114 Science Place
Who’s up for some prehistoric summertime fun? Let’s meet at the U of S Geology building, and explore the Museum of Natural Sciences together. We’ll meet down by the T-Rex at 2:00, and we’ll explore the dinosaurs, plants, fish, and other museum items together. Afterwards (weather-permitting), we’ll head out to the bowl for snacks and some games.
If anyone wants to come up with something dinosaur-related (games, quick lesson, etc.), feel free to bring it along with you.
